Gordon Bennett!
/ˌɡɔːdn ˈbenɪt/
/ˌɡɔːrdn ˈbenɪt/
(British English, informal)- a rather old-fashioned phrase used to express surprise or shock. The original Mr Bennett was a 19th-century US newspaper owner, James Gordon Bennett Junior, who was famous for his extravagant lifestyle and his support of sporting events. He also provided the money for Stanley's journey to Africa to look for David Livingstone. He lived for many years in Paris, where he started the International Herald Tribune.
