- (1926-92) an English architect. He is well known for designing modern buildings with many straight lines and bright colours. Some people with traditional ideas about architecture do not approve of his work. He designed buildings for the universities of , Cambridge and Leicester, and his best-known buildings include a new part of Tate Britain, the Clore Gallery, and an art gallery in Stuttgart, Germany. He was made a knight in 1992.
