- John Boynton Priestley (1894-1984) an English writer. His best-known works are probably the novel The Good Companions (1929), about a small theatre company, and his play An Inspector Calls (1947), but he wrote many other popular novels and plays, often comedies about English life and society. He was also known for his critical writings on English literature and his radio broadcasts during the Second World War.
