John Constable

- (1776-1837) an English painter who is considered to be one of the greatest English landscape artists. He often painted scenes from the countryside of East Anglia, especially along the River Stour, an area that is now described in tourist advertisements as Constable country. One of the most famous of these paintings is The Hay Wain. A large collection of his work was given by his daughter to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
