- a district of south-west London, part of the borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It contains many of London's large museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. It also contains the Commonwealth Institute and Imperial College London. Kensington has particular associations with the royal family, and was made a ‘royal borough’ by Queen Victoria, who was born in Kensington Palace. South Kensington is a fashionable and expensive area to live in.
