- a south-eastern US state, also known as the Bluegrass State. The capital city is Frankfort, and the largest city is Louisville. It became a state in 1792. It produces agricultural products, coal and whiskey and is well known for breeding horses for racing. Its tourist attractions include the place where Abraham Lincoln was born (near the village of Hodgenville) and Mammoth Cave National Park, a World Heritage Site since 1981.
