Kentucky Derby

- the most famous US horse-racing event. It is for three-year-olds and one of the triple crown races, run every year on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The race is 1.25 miles/2 kilometres long. The Kentucky Derby was begun in 1875 by Colonel M Lewis Clark and has become part of a social event that lasts several days.
