Lew Wallace

- (1827-1905) a US writer best known for his novel Ben-Hur (1880). He wrote other historical novels, including The Fair God (1873) and Prince of India (1893). Wallace was also a lawyer, a soldier, governor of the New Mexico Territory (1878-81) and a US government representative in Turkey (1881-5).
