Lindisfarne /ˈlɪndɪsfɑːn/ /ˈlɪndɪsfɑːrn/ (also Holy Island) - a small island off the coast of Northumberland in north-east England. A monastery (= Christian religious community) was established there in the 7th century, although the ruined buildings that survive are from the early Norman period.
