Los Alamos

- a small US town in northern New Mexico. The first atom bomb and hydrogen bomb were developed there at the US government's nuclear research centre established in 1943, and the town grew around the centre. The Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is operated for the US Department of Energy, and its work in education and research includes a Neutron Science Center.
