- one of the Anglo-Saxon regions of England, occupying a large area of central England. It was established in the 6th century and was very powerful during the 8th century, when it was ruled by Offa, who built Offa's Dyke. Recently, the name Mercia has started to be used again in the names of organizations, buildings and companies in central England.
