Michael Foot

- (1913-2010) a British Labour politician. He was Secretary of State for employment (1974-6), Leader of the House of Commons (1976-9) and leader of the Labour Party from 1980 to 1983, when Labour lost a general election. He was well known for his left-wing views such as his opposition to nuclear weapons, but he was respected by both sides of British politics as a thinker, speaker and writer.
