- the home of US President Thomas Jefferson, on a hill near Charlottesville, Virginia. Jefferson himself designed it in the neoclassical style, and it was completed in 1809. He lived there for 56 years and is buried there. It became a National Shrine in 1926 and a World Heritage Site in 1987.
