Nikolaus Pevsner

- (1902-83) a British architectural historian (= person who studies the history of how buildings are designed), born in Germany. His best-known work, The Buildings of England (1941-74), describes every important building in England. It was published in 46 volumes (= separate books) and is often referred to simply as 'Pevsner'. He also wrote The Englishness of English Art (1957). He was made a knight in 1969.
