Pete Seeger

- (1919-2014) a US singer who has been called 'the father of the American folk revival'. He played the guitar and banjo and wrote many folk songs (= traditional songs of the people). He first formed and sang with the Weavers (1949-52). Seeger's successful songs of protest include If I Had a Hammer (1949), Where Have All the Flowers Gone (1956) and We Shall Overcome.
