Rhode Island

- the smallest US state, also called the Ocean State. It is in the north-east of the country on the Atlantic coast. It was named after the Greek island of Rhodes and was one of the original 13 states. Providence is the capital and largest city. Rhode Island has a fishing and boat-building industry and produces jewellery, electronic products and grapes. Popular tourist attractions include Newport and Samuel Slater's Mill in Pawtucket.
