Betty Friedan

- (1921-2006) a US writer and feminist (= a person who believes strongly that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men). She began the National Organization for Women in 1966 and was its President until 1970. Her book The Feminine Mystique (1963) was an important influence on the women's lib movement. Friedan later wrote The Second Stage (1981) and The Fountain of Age (1993).
