Robinson Crusoe

- a character in a book of the same name by Daniel Defoe, published in 1719. Crusoe is left alone on an island after his ship sinks, and uses his few possessions to survive there. He is helped by Man Friday, a man who becomes Crusoe's faithful servant after Crusoe saves him from death. The book was based on a true story and is often considered to be the first English novel.
