)- a character in the British children's stories by Mary Tourtel (1874-1948). Rupert is a bear who wears a red top, yellow checked trousers and a yellow checked scarf (= one with a pattern of squares). He appeared first in 1920 in a regular cartoon strip in the Daily Express newspaper, and later in several books and television series.
