- a large piece of meat, usually beef, lamb (= the meat of a young sheep) or pork, cooked in an oven. The Sunday roast/joint is the main part of the traditional lunch that many British families eat on Sundays, usually with potatoes, vegetables and gravy (= sauce made from the juice of cooked meat).
