- the US government organization that investigates unfair employment practices. It was established in 1965, after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. The Commission uses laws that make it illegal for employers to discriminate against a person because of their race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information. It is also illegal to discriminate against people who have complained about discrimination. The EEOC can take employers to a court of law.
