- a British political organization that was formed in 1884 with the aim of gradually changing Britain into a socialist society. Many famous left-wing politicians and writers have been members, including George Bernard Shaw. The Fabian Society was one of the groups responsible for creating the Labour Party. It still has many important members, but its influence on the Labour Party is not as strong as it used to be.
