The Faerie Queene

- a long poem (1590-6) by Edmund Spenser. It was written in praise of Queen Elizabeth I and its imaginary characters and events represent moral values. It is Spenser's best-known poem. The style of writing had a strong influence on the development of English poetry, and the pattern of rhymes in each verse was used by many later poets.
