- a leading British orchestra established in London in 1932 by Thomas Beecham. Past conductors have included Adrian Boult (1951-7), Bernard Haitink (1967-79) and Georg Solti (1979-83). It is based at the Royal Festival Hall and plays at Glyndebourne every summer.
