the Model Parliament /ðə ˌmɒdl ˈpɑːləmənt/ /ðə ˌmɑːdl ˈpɑːrləmənt/ - the name later given to the English parliament set up in 1295 by King Edward I. It was the first to include not only members of the clergy (= priests and other church officials) and the aristocracy but also elected members to represent ordinary people. In this way it established the pattern for future parliaments.
