- a popular US tabloid newspaper, first published in 1926 as the New York Evening Enquirer, and under its present name since 1957. It contains articles which are often difficult to believe about the private lives of famous people, creatures from space, ghosts, etc. Many copies of the newspaper are sold in supermarkets.
