- (1903-2003) a US comedian and comedy actor, born in Britain. He performed for nearly 70 years as a star of vaudeville, radio, television and films. He was well known for his trips to entertain US soldiers around the world. His many films include the series of seven 'Road movies' (among them The Road to Zanzibar and The Road to Morocco), in which he appeared with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. Hope presented the Academy Awards television show for many years and received several special Oscars. He also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969 and was made an honorary knight by the British government in 1998.
