- a small political party established in Britain in 1983 by David Sutch (1942-99), who was known as Screaming Lord Sutch. It has attracted a lot of publicity during elections because of its strange policies and the humorous appearance of its candidates. Before the general election of 1997 it had a candidate in every election and by-election. Its policies exist to make fun of British politics, and they provide voters with a way of protesting when they do not support any of the main political parties. Its candidates have in fact won in some local elections. The party's slogan is 'Vote for Insanity'.
