Thomas Macaulay

- (1800-59) an English writer and politician. His best-known works are his unfinished History of England, which was a great influence on later writers of history, and Lays of Ancient Rome. He was a Member of Parliament and Secretary of War (1839-41), and was made a baron in 1857.
