Thornton Wilder

- (1897-1975) a US writer of novels and plays. He won Pulitzer Prizes for the novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey (1927) and the plays Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth (1942). His comedy play The Matchmaker (1954) was used as the basis for the Broadway musical play Hello, Dolly!(1964).
