William Styron

He received the Pulitzer Prize for The Confessions of Nat Turner (1967), which some people criticized for its violent story based on the murders committed by the African American slave Nat Turner. Styron's other novels include Lie Down in Darkness (1951) and Sophie's Choice (1979), which became a successful film (1982).
