Wounded Knee

- a small river in the US state of South Dakota where US soldiers killed more than 200 Native American men, women and children of the Sioux people on 29 December 1890. This was the final major battle of the Indian wars. In 1973 members of the American Indian Movement occupied the village there for over two months, demanding that the US Senate take action to help Native Americans.
