Buffalo Bill

- the popular name of William Cody (1846-1917), an American frontiersman and (later) entertainer. He killed many buffalo to provide meat for workers on the Kansas Pacific Railroad. He was also a rider for the Pony Express in 1860. Ned Buntline made him famous by writing stories about his life in his dime novels. In the 1870s Buffalo Bill organized his own Wild West Show to entertain audiences in the US and Europe.
