Dirk Bogarde

- (1920-99) an English actor who first became well known in the 1950s in a series of British comedy films about medical students, and later worked in more serious films, many of them in Europe, such as The Damned (1969) and Death in Venice (1971). He also wrote an autobiography (= story of his own life) and several novels. He was made a knight in 1992.
