Andrew Marvell

- (1621-78) one of the English metaphysical poets. Among his best-known poems is To his Coy Mistress, a clever and entertaining attempt to persuade a young woman to go to bed with him. During his life Marvell was better known as a Member of Parliament (1659-78) and a supporter of Oliver Cromwell.
