Andy Warhol

- (1928-87) a US artist who was a leading figure in the pop art movement in the 1960s. He painted such familiar objects as Campbell's soup cans and dollar bills (= notes). Another famous picture consisted of several similar images of Marilyn Monroe. Warhol made a number of long films in which very little happened, including Chelsea Girls (1966). The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, where he was born, is said to be the largest museum in the world containing the work of a single artist.
