/ˌfɪnɪɡənz ˈweɪk/
- a novel (1922) by James Joyce. It describes in great detail one day in the lives and thoughts of a Dublin man, his wife and friends, and contains many references to history, mythology (= ancient stories) and literature. It was Joyce's last novel, and is well known for being difficult to read. It is a long book, written in an experimental style. Joyce made up his own grammar, and many of the words are invented or borrowed from other languages. The book was originally published in Paris and was not published in Britain until 1936.
