- born William Maxwell Aitken (1874-1964) a British newspaper owner and politician. He was born in Canada, but settled in Britain and became a Member of Parliament in 1910. He was a Cabinet minister in both World Wars. He bought the Daily Express and the Evening Standard and started the Sunday Express. He used these newspapers to try to make various ideas popular, such as his desire to preserve the British Empire.
