the United Service Organizations
- an organization that provides support for people serving in the US armed forces, and their families. It was started in 1941 and most of the people who work for it are volunteers. As well as social clubs and family support, the USO provides entertainment for soldiers serving abroad. Bob Hope often appeared in USO shows.
