Fiji

- a country in the southern Pacific Ocean, consisting of over 800 islands. The capital city is Suva, and the country's economy is based mainly on farming, fishing and tourism. Fiji, which used to be a part of the British Empire, became independent in 1970. The armed forces took over the country in 1987, 2000 and 2006. In 2014 there was a democratic election and Fiji was allowed to return to being a member of the Commonwealth, having been removed in 2006.
